I’ll be honest, at first I wasn’t sure if this challenge would work for me. I mean, I’ve been using the SMART Method to set goals for years and I consider myself a pretty big Goal Setter.
But there was just something about this concept of breaking goals into skills that intrigued me.
I’ve always set BIG goals, but honestly some of them never got accomplished until I realized that I needed to break each one of them into skills I need to learn.
So here’s what the challenge did for me:
It gave me the ability to use time I already had (disposable time) to help me learn each of those skills. This was a game changer!
I didn’t even realize I had Disposable Time. I didn’t even know there was a difference between Free Time & Disposable Time.
The Double Dot Theory Community define Disposable time like this:
Disposable Time // Time that would have otherwise been wasted i.e. waiting in line at a coffee shop
Sooo, here was the BIG Ah-ha:
If I mastered how to break my BIG GOALS into skills I needed to learn, then I could use this newly discovered “Disposable Time” to learn about each skill [mind blown]
Honestly, I wish I would have realized this sooner! But, let me be the friend that teaches you about this challenge…
Take the Double Dot Theory challenge yourself, here are the deets:
Step 1: Set a BIG GOAL i.e. Starting a Podcast
Step 2: Break that BIG GOAL into skills you need to learn i.e. Audio Editing, Storytelling, Hosting Guest Interviews
Step 3: Pick one skill you want to FOCUS on for 30-days i.e. Audio Editing (During these 30-days you get to use your disposable time to learn about JUST this one skill) P.S. This is called setting your focus and the coolest thing is that tons of people shout out their Focus Topic on Instagram every Friday on the Double Dot Theory page…it’s so INSPIRING!
Step 4: Use your Disposable Time for the next 30 days to learn everything you can about your Focus Topic (Kindra recommends that you use search engines like Google, Pinterest & YouTube to learn about your Focus Topic)
It’s actually insane how much you can learn in these little pockets of Disposable Time.
One day I was in line at a Drive-thru and was completely stopped for 2 minutes so I headed to google images and typed in my focus topic which was “Using Canva” and I was shocked at how many infographics popped up.
It was so easy to consume information that way!
Let me know, are you going to take the 30-day Double Dot Theory challenge?
